You've got it wrong. Raycasting hasn't been used since Wolfenstein 3D. The games you all mentioned use 3D projection for rendering, and the triangles are then clipped, sorted and rasterized.

Well, we're going to see, of course about that, if the things MadMarkus Miles said are becoming reality or not.

The undeniable truth is that land has become quite cheap while tiers are still not so that big land owners need to find other sources of income, I guess.

What really happened: Anshe fired two angels, including their team leader. Then two angels who were close friends followed them, while others remained.

After talking to some folks in the new team I was assured that they are doing well, that there aren't any bad "things in the pipeline" and that Anshe's company isn't planning any price increases or new fees.

Oh wow, Torley in da house... in my little, humble blog... <strong>faints</strong>

Yes, that's true, there are many ways, especially since technically the SL client acts the same like e.g. Winamp in regards of music streams, so there are enough commands in the OS of your choice already to show it.

Ah, great, I cannot await it until the First Look viewer becomes the main viewer! Keep up to the good work on it, folks. <img src="http://blog.no-carrier.info/templates/default/img/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":-)" style="display: inline; vertical-align: bottom;" class="emoticon" />

Just to round out some context here, there are many, many ways to get stream URLs; it's not particularly encrypted or anything like that, and my understanding is we can't "special case" for this exception. For example, you can also use Client menu's Console Window and that will show you the info, too.

The Linden Lab issue # for this is SL-30647, but was closed as "won't resolve" due to the aforementioned. So while it's a casual deterrent, people with enough curiosity can get to it.

And BTW (in regards to your other post), the bug is fixed in First Look Viewer and will hopefully roll out with a lot of other fixes, including the dang "invisible water" one.

Glad you were inspired by me! =)

I'm very happy so far they're getting some income. Hopefully they're able to generate finally some profit, too.

But let's face it: I'm in SL since about half a year now. It is not as much fun ago than it was back in September, because the online player count grows day by day and there are still unfixed issues, mainly the almighty lag many of us experience.

So if they want to grow also a fix of this should be top priority, this means adding more bandwidth, I guess and some other changes to the technical infrastructure.

Because if the issues continue to go on, sooner or later the word will spread around and then people are going perhaps to avoid buying islands. When you've got a bad image it's very hard to turn it around, again. So - they better should fix it and fix it soon.

Let's be very happy they are doing good. The profits will be used to invest in better software and a better experience in SL. They need lot's of funds to be able to fix the lag problem, and they really need to fix that to ensure growth. SL could become the next (3D) web, but only if it can scale up that big (without just keeping adding one island per 100 avatars :-p ).

Mercedes-Benz has announced a new sports package for those people considering an SL-Class who want a bit extra flair with their expensive set of wheels. As a matter of fact, the visual punch added by the sports package focuses on a new set of 19-inch, twin-spoke wheels that offer a fairly unencumbered view of the silver-painted front Mercedes brake calipers and cross-drilled rotors in the rear. I know BMW will gona follow this endeavor soon...
